The Quercus Palustris, or Pin Oak, is a medium to tall growing tree that looks outstanding all year round. It is quite common as a stand-alone feature tree, but is also regularly found planted along streets throughout Melbourne. Whilst it holds more of a cone-like shape at youth; lower drooping branches and ascending upper branches, upon maturity, it becomes a magnificently large and even flowing tree. With dark green foliage turning into a golden bronze during autumn, often persisting through winter, before finally dropping. Green-yellow flower appears in the early spring, which matures into a light brown acorn. The Pin Oak is drought, frost, and wind tolerant, and can grow in most soil conditions, including wet, dry, or sandy soils, and requires very little maintenance.
This tree is predominately used for larger parks and gardens, wider streetscapes with its glorious colours year round.
